RJ

RJ’s tattoo was done by “The Man” at Skin Deep Tribal Tattoo, Hookset, NH

RJ, a Harley Davidson riding Economist, agreed to do a written interview about his tattoo to share on this site.

You told me the meaning of the Maasai shield source of your tattoo, but I can’t do justice to it — could you explain it for us?

The Maasai Warriors are protectors of the tribe and the spear and shield are the symbol of that role. Typically younger warriors are allowed to use black, grey and white dyes on their shields while red is reserved for more experienced warriors. At times tribal chiefs give permission for red to be used.

Jen

Jen Rowland’s tattoo is a Sailor Jerry by Bryan13 at Mystic Marks Tattoo, San Marcos, TX

When I asked Jen if she would like to provide her perspective in her own words for this gallery of her photos, she was happy to contribute, explaining her understanding of being “body-proud.”

Caroline

Caroline Pope-Peavy’s tattoos were done by her husband Dave Peavy of Federal Hill Tattoo.

Caroline is a yoga instructor at Providence Power Yoga and is an ambassador for Lululemon. She and Dave have two kids and that’s another dimension in her life.

Of course, I had to ask her what it was like being tattooed by her husband, and she told me that it brought them closer together. I believed that already, just looking through the lens at her tattoos.

Amy

Amy Ravenelle’s Tattoos were done by:

Foot: Doug Forcier, Renaissance Tattoo Studio, Woonsocket, RI.
Chest: Mike Johnston, Blackstone Tattoo Co., Pawtucket, RI.
Hip: Nick Clattenburg, Famous Tattoos, Dartmouth, MA.

Amy is a professional in tattoo supplies and shop management. She was down with doing a three tattoo session, which was an embarrassment of riches. During our photo shoot at Providence Power Yoga, where Amy also works and practices yoga, I ventured to ask her, “So, you must have a lot of stories about a lot of people.” To which she replied…

Glowing Haze Over Downtown Providence Still a Mystery

August 20, 2015/ Staff

EPA, FEMA and local authorities have been unable to explain the cause or nature of a mysterious glowing haze that appeared this week over Downtown Providence. Mayor Jorge Elorza has assured residents that the haze is “apparently harmless.” Although its source is currently unknown, no toxicity, pollutants or radiation have been detected in the haze. “There is no cause for alarm and I urge everyone to go about their day. We will keep the public updated as information is provided to us.”

Joe

Musician Joe Sabourin’s tattoo was done by Craig Prentiss at Visions Tattoo, Medway, MA. Joe is an honest-to-goodness working musician, so there’s some likelihood that, if you’re into local music, you’ve seen him anywhere from the Fatt Squirrel to your cousin’s wedding. He has a Facebook page, “My Mother’s Moustache,” where you can find out where, what and with whom he’s playing. For his gallery, he provided a quote from Victor L. Wooten because “It says so much more than I can.”

Wooten begins:  “Musicians do not have to be believed in.

Wendy

Wendy Cardoza’s pair of tattoos were done by Andy Robinson of Art Machine Productions, Fishtown, Philadelphia. As you may notice with the featured photo, one of the mahjong tiles is ready for a game. Wendy has written her own piece about the meaning of her tattoos.

She begins:
What will be with me for the rest of my life?

Amy Remix!

Amy Ravenelle did this great remix composite of four of her foot shots. Tattoo by Doug Forcier, Renaissance Tattoo Studio, Woonsocket, RI.

I totally encourage models to have fun with their photos and post them wherever they like. (Models get a set of files for their own use.) I do, however, request attribution to me as photographer and to the tattoo artist when posting images and image remixes on social media. (Just like Amy did, because she is awesome). I can’t stop anyone from doing otherwise, but, you know, don’t be a douche.
