Jason declined providing any commentary about his tattoo, which isn\u2019t that he has nothing to say (he\u2019s a talker), but that he\u2019s not saying it here. He did, however, give me permission to make up stuff about him. I asked him, \u201cAre you really sure?\u201d and he affirmed. \u201cMaybe I\u2019ll tell the truth,\u201d I warned. \u201cWhatever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Well, then…<\/p>\n

So, I asked Jason, \u201cWhich of your tattoos is the one you love the most?\u201d and he kind of shrugged and otherwise indicated indecision. A lot of people have an answer to that question, so it isn\u2019t totally off the wall. But you know how there\u2019s a difference between when a person is truly indecisive because they don\u2019t know for real and when a person is indecisive because it\u2019s too hard to say? This was like the latter one, and I wasn\u2019t convinced. \u201cYou gotta tell me, Jason,\u201d I said. \u201cCome on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cScrew it, you\u2019re not gonna believe me anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe I will,\u201d I said encouragingly.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo. You won\u2019t. Look, I will tell you just to demonstrate that what I\u2019m saying now is true. You already don\u2019t believe it, but you don\u2019t know it yet. Remember that. I do have a favorite tattoo. But I can\u2019t show it to you \u2013 and, no, it\u2019s not one of those tattoos, where it\u2019s just that I wouldn\u2019t<\/em> show it to you. It\u2019s that I can\u2019t<\/em>. I can\u2019t show it to you. I can\u2019t show it to anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s invisible? Like in invisible ink?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, it\u2019s invisible, with whatever it\u2019s made of.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut, then you can\u2019t prove you have this tattoo.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s pretty much the problem, and people think I\u2019m bullshitting them, as they naturally would. I wouldn\u2019t fucking believe me<\/em>. Do you get what I\u2019m saying? It\u2019s fucking invisible, no one except me can see it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, but where is this tattoo?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt moves around.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me get this. The tattoo gets shy<\/em>. Only when other people are around<\/em>. Does it get worse? Where in the hell are you taking this?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNowhere. I have an invisible tattoo and that\u2019s my favorite one. Can we move on to another subject now?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFuck no \u2013 you have a SHY, INVISIBLE TATTOO that MOVES AROUND. Let\u2019s grant this assumption, as hard as it is. Where the fuck did you get it?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou think that\u2019s going to make this anymore believable? It\u2019s not, okay? It won\u2019t work, any making sense of it by asking more questions. Okay? \u2026You know what? A freakin’ genie gave it to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA genie, like Aladdin\u2019s? Like in a Thousand and One Arabian Nights? Where the fuck did you come across a genie?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was a kid going through a junkyard, I found a glass bottle, looked interesting, opened it. Genie.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, then you got three wishes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo. It\u2019s a lot suckier than that. A genie doesn\u2019t do anything except kind of read your mind and then give you something, hoping that you\u2019ll release them. It\u2019s really fucked up. Solitary confinement for, I think 50 years, he said. Trust me, you don\u2019t want to be party to that sort of thing. I was a kid, but I knew a bad scene when I saw it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, you let him go?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFuck yes. He gave me the tattoo after<\/em> I said he could just go, that he didn\u2019t have to give me anything. He knew I wanted one. That\u2019s how I got that tattoo.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat does it look like?\u201d<\/p>\n

Jason shrugged. \u201cI could try with everything I\u2019ve got to describe it, and then the words disappear. I have tried to draw it, paint it, weld it, sing it. I have used every single thing around to show or say or sound like what the fuck it looks like. Can\u2019t do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

I was laughing my ass off, \u201cYou mother fucker! It did get fucking worse. You are so, so shitting me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not. Look, I said you wouldn\u2019t believe me, and now you know what I was saying was true. Can\u2019t call me a liar.\u201d<\/p>\n
